Coastal Conference Playoff Preview: Round 1

The Rogers BCHL Playoffs begin this Friday with all eight series getting underway. Yesterday, we previewed the Interior Conference matchups, so today we look at the Coastal Conference side of things with a preview of the four series.

Coastal West Division

#1 Cowichan Valley Capitals vs. #4 Victoria Grizzlies

Head-to-Head:

Cowichan Valley won the season series 4-2-1.

Top performers:

Cowichan Valley – F Anthony Hall (64 points), F Jack McAra (61 points), F Tristan Gravenor (56 points), G Rhett Stoesser (2.50 GAA)

Victoria – F Artur Gross (53 points), F Owen Warnick (45 points), D Reece Gault (44 points), G Mikus Vecvanags (.905 SV%)

Fast Facts:

  • Cowichan Valley’s 38 wins were the second most in the BCHL
  • Hall was the eighth leading scorer in the league during the regular season, while his 43 assists tied for fifth
  • The Capitals were second in goals scored in 2025-26 and gave up the third fewest goals against
  • Cowichan’s penalty kill tied for second in the league at 82.6%
  • Gault finished the season tied for third in defencemen scoring
  • The Grizzlies picked up Vecvanags in January and he quickly earned the bulk of the starts the rest of the way, finishing with a 10-6-2 record
  • Gross led Victoria in scoring despite being acquired over a month into the season, averaging 1.23 points per game
  • The two teams last met in the 2025 playoffs when Victoria defeated Cowichan Valley in six games in the second round

#2 Nanaimo Clippers vs. #3 Alberni Valley Bulldogs

Head-to-Head:

Nanaimo won the season series 4-2-1.

Nanaimo – F Tanner Bruender (58 points), F Hayden Fechner (54 points), F Jack Rimmer (52 points), G Eliot Séguin-Lescarbeau (five shutouts)

Alberni Valley – Kye Benoche (53 points), F Kai Matthew (47 points), F Brandon Gill (46 points), D Wyatt Davis (44 points)

Fast Facts:

  • Nanaimo had a top-five power play in the regular season, operating at 25.6%
  • Séguin-Lescarbeau’s five shutouts were just one back of the league lead, while his .903 save percentage ranked fifth
  • Landon Pappas had 39 points on the season to tie for ninth in defencemen scoring
  • Bruender’s 28 goals tied for 10th in the BCHL
  • Davis tied for third in points by defencemen
  • Bulldogs goalie Jack Hirshorn tied for sixth in save percentage with a rate of .902
  • Two of Alberni Valley’s top three scorers (Benoche and Gill) were acquired midseason
  • The teams last met in the 2020 playoffs when the Clippers won in four games

Coastal East Division

#1 Prince George Spruce Kings vs. #4 Langley Rivermen

Prince George won the season series 5-2.

Fast Facts:

  • Prince George gave up the fourth fewest goals this season, while scoring the fourth most
  • The Spruce Kings own the second best power play in the BCHL (30%), as well as the fourth best penalty kill (81%)
  • Rep led all defenceman in scoring with his 52 points
  • Ushio tied for third with 31 goals this season and finished seventh in points with 66
  • Benayon led the BCHL with 36 goals and finished fifth in points with 68
  • Langley averaged 3.85 goals per game during the season, seventh most in the BCHL
  • The two teams last met in the postseason in 2015 when Prince George won in six games in the first round

#2 Chilliwack Chiefs vs. #3 Coquitlam Express

Head-to-Head:

Chilliwack won the season series 4-2-1.

Top Performers:

Chilliwack – F Nico Grabas (76 points), F Jack Plandowski (75 points), F Reese Shaw (67 points), D Edvin Nilsson (43 points)

Coquitlam – F Nolan Flynn (49 points), F Tyler Chiovetti (42 points), F Luke Pfoh (42 points), F Brady Engelkes (37 points)

Fast Facts:

  • Grabas led the BCHL in scoring with his 76 points
  • Plandowski finished second in league scoring, while Shaw was sixth
  • Nilsson ranked sixth in points by defencemen
  • Chilliwack scored the third most goals in the league this year (4.44 per game)
  • The Chiefs clinched home-ice advantage by beating Coquitlam in the final game of the regular season
  • Coquitlam’s power play was fourth best in the BCHL (28.8%)
  • The Express had the seventh best penalty kill in the league (78.6%)
  • Coquitlam made several key acquisitions during the season, including trading for Tyler Chiovetti (Vernon), Brady Engelkes (Okotoks) and Georgios Stavrianeas (Trail) who finished as three of the team’s top seven scorers
  • The teams last met in the 2023 playoffs where Chilliwack won their first round series in five games
